In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.
1Glorify the name of your guardian Lord, most high
2Who has created and further given order and proportion;
3Who has ordained laws, and granted guidance;
4And who brings out the pasture.
5And then does make it swarthy stubble.
6By degrees shall We teach you to declare so you shall not forget1
7Except as Allah wills: For He knows what is manifest and what is
hidden.
8And We will make it easy for you the simple path.
9Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits.
10The admonition will be received by those who fear Allah:
11But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones.
12Who will enter the great fire
13In which they will then neither die nor live.
14But those will prosper who purify themselves.
15And glorify the name of their Lord in prayer.
16No, you prefer the life of this world;
17But the hereafter is better and more enduring.
18And this is in the books of the earliest revelations.
19The books of Abraham and Moses.2

1. For
forgotten passages of the Qur’an, please refer to
Qur’an 4:82.
[Commentary continues below.]
2. One of the six articles
of faith is “Belief in the Scriptures”. The belief further teaches that
there are 104 Books revealed by God to mankind. Of these 104 Books, Adam
brought 10, Seth brought 50, Enoch brought 30 and Abraham brought 10. These
however are all lost and only four remain. These four are the Torah of
Moses, the Zabura of David, the Injil of Jesus and the Qur’an of Muhammad.
It is further claimed that the Qur’an is the Superior of the remaining four
and whose contents must be believed above all the other Scriptures. What the
Qur’an does not distinguish is that the Psalms were not all the work of David: 73 are
ascribed to David, 12 were written by Asaph, 12 by the sons of Korah, two by
Solomon, one by Moses, one by Ethan and 49 are by anonymous authors. So to
ascribe the authorship of the Psalms to solely to David is totally wrong.
