The Jinn (Al-Jinn)

In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.

¹Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of jinns listened to the Qur’an. They say `We have really heard a wonderful recital!¹

²It gives guidance to the right and we have believed therein: We shall not join any gods with our Lord.

³And exalted is the majesty of our Lord: He has taken neither a wife nor a son.²

⁴And there were some foolish ones among us who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

⁵And we do think that no man or spirit should say anything that is untrue against Allah.³

¹Quluhiya ilaya an nahustamaa nafarum minal jinni faqalu inna samina quranan ajaba

²Yahdi ilarrusdi fa aman nabih wa lan nusrika birabbina ahada

³Wa annahu taala jadu rabbina matakhaza sahibata wa la walada

⁴Wa annahu kana yaqulu safihuna alallahi satata

⁵Wa anna zanan na allan taqulal insu waljin nu alallah kaziba

1. The identity of the Jinn is as confusing as a number of things dealt with in the Qur’an. Farid says that the Jinn may be a reference to a party of the Jews of Nasibin and may refer been referred to as Jinn because of their foreign nature. Maulana Ali believes that the Jinn mentioned here may be a reference to Christians, although he also believes that Jinn ethereal beings, like angels or spirits. The Editors of the “Noble Qur’an” support the view that the Jinn were created by God from fire. Yusuf Ali does not quite say what he believes the Jinn to be in this verse, but concedes to the fact they were aware of the revelation to Moses and that to Jesus.

George Sale puts a clincher on the matter by revealing how they were perceived by the Arabs. He said that when the Arabs found themselves in a desert in the evening, because they believed that the deserts were haunted by the Jinn, they would pray this prayer; “I fly for refuge unto the Lord of this valley, that he may defend me from the foolish among his people.

So you ask, “Who are the Jinn?” Well, they are not human beings, because according to the Qur’an they were created from fire (Qur’an 55:15). Man on the other hand was created from water (21:30, 24:45), dust (3:59, 30:20, 35:11); earth (11:61); a drop of thickened fluid (16:4, 75:37); a clot of blood (96:1‑2). Although this creates a contradictory state of affairs, yet the point is clear, that the Jinn are not human beings.

Marmaduke Pickthall believes that they are elemental spirits, as such they the fallen angels who are cast into utter darkness and are in charge of the spirit world. The Bible refers to them as principalities and powers of darkness (Ephesians 6). Now if they are elemental spirits and therefore fallen angels, they have no chance of repentance, let alone conversion. In 2 Peter 2:4-7,12-13 we read:

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked… But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you.

The Jinn are evil spirits, whose fate is sealed awaiting the final judgment, according to the verse, they applauded the recital of the Qur’an. The question is why would they applaud the reading of the Qur’an? It is like this, when one engineers a masterpiece, one applauds the finished product as an original masterpiece. The Qur’an is a masterpiece in deception, and the authors who attended the “inauguration” or launching of their work would have to confirm that it is indeed a masterpiece. Because the Qur’an is not the work of one person, you often read of speakers and not a speaker. Note how these sentences flow; Qur’an 72:16 (And Allah’s Message is): “If they (the pagans) had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them rain in abundance. Qur’an 71:1 reads “We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): ‛Do thou warn thy people before there comes to them a grievous Penalty.’” Qur’an 63:10 reads, “And spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you before death should come to any of you and he should say ‛O my Lord! why didst thou not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity and I should have been one of the doers of good.’ Qur’an 75:17 reads, “It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it.”

Now, all this makes sense if one understands the nature of the Jinn. According to Qur’an 46:29, a group of Jinn is from 3 to 10, that would definitely explain why the speak in the plural sense and not in the singular sense. If they authored the Qur’an, it would also explain why there are so many conflicting views on subjects such as the creation of man, as mentioned above. Thus it explains why they attack orthodox Christian tenets including the whole Christological issues. Denying His deity, His sacrificial death on the cross or even His death (Qur’an 4:156-158, 171). Because the Devil and all his agents know how efficacious the death of Christ is, and by denying it to the world of the disbelievers, it confirms them in their disbelieve and guarantee them an entrance into hell. That has been the hope of Satan, the Devil, who roams about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. As you read this Qur’an and other religious literature, you will understand why Christianity is so hated, it takes a bite at Satan and his kingdom, his counter attack is using religious leaders to deceive the world.

Another sign that Satan the Devil influenced Islam is the fact He hated anything about Christ and that is also the case with Muhammad. Sunan of Abu-Dawood’s Hadith 902 narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar; Sa’id ibn Ziyad ibn Subayh al-Hanafi said: I prayed by the side of Ibn Umar and I put my hands on my waist. When he finished his prayer, He said: This is a cross in prayer; the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) used to forbid it. In fact, Muhammad forbade the use of anything which had the Christian symbol on it. Sahih Al-Bukhari’s Hadith 7.836 narrated by Aisha; I never used to leave in the Prophet’s house anything carrying images or crosses but he obliterated it. Al-Tirmidhi’s Hadith 3654 narrated by AbuUmamah;

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah has sent me as a mercy to the universe and as a guidance to the universe, and my Lord, Who is Great and Glorious, has commanded me to annihilate stringed instruments, wind instruments, idols, crosses and pre-Islamic customs. My Lord, Who is Great and Glorious has sworn, ‘By My might, none of My servants will drink a mouthful of wine without My giving him a similar amount of pus to drink, but he will not abandon it through fear of Me without My giving him drink from the holy tanks.’“

Ahmad transmitted it. Since he believes that Jesus was a Muslim, he further teaches that He will come and break crosses. Sahih Al-Bukhari’s Hadith 4.657 narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler); he will break the Cross.

So it is clear that the authors of Islam knowing the power of God Almighty and Jesus Christ, sought to belittle it and to make Islam and the Qur’an the only acceptable religion and Book. Having known who the Jinn are, you are in a better position not to be fooled by the wiles of the devil again in matters relevant to your salvation.

2. Another sign the Qur’an did not come from God Almighty is the assumption in the meaning of the term, Son of God, in reference to Christ. It is Allah’s opinion that to refer to Jesus as the Son of God Almighty is to say that God Almighty had a wife by the name of Mary with He Fathered Jesus. This is blasphemous based on sheer ignorance.

3. Allah and the Qur’an are guilty of this. They utter untruths about God Almighty.

⁶True, there were persons among mankind who took shelter with persons among the jinns, but they increased them in folly.⁴

⁷And they think as you thought, that Allah would not raise up anyone to judgment.

⁸And we pried into the secrets of heaven; but we found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.⁵

⁹We used indeed to sit there in stations to steal a hearing; but any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

¹⁰And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth or whether their Lord intends to guide them to right conduct.

¹¹And there are among us some that are righteous and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths.

⁶Wa annahu kana rijalu minal insi yauzuna birijali minal jinnifazaduhum rahaqa

⁷Wa annahum zannu kama zanantum al layabasal lahu ahada

⁸Wa anna lamasna samaa fawajadnaha muliat harasan sadidaw wa suhuba

⁹Wa anna kunna naqudu minha maqaida li sami fama yastami ilana yajid lahu sihaba rasa da

¹⁰Wa annala nadri asyarun urida biman filardi am arada bihim rabuhum rasada

¹¹Wa anna min nasalihuna waminna duna zalik kunna taraiqa qidada

4. Any association with the Jinn is the way to hell.

¹²But we think that we can by no means frustrate Allah throughout the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by flight.

¹³And as for us since we have listened to the guidance, we have accepted it: and any who believes in his Lord has no fear either of a short account or of any injustice.

¹⁴Among us are some that submit their wills to Allah and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills they have sought out the path of right conduct:

¹⁵But those who swerve they are fuel for hell fire.

¹⁶If they had remained on the way, We should certainly have bestowed on them rain in abundance.

¹⁷That We might try them by that means but if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe penalty.

¹²Wa anna zanan na alan nuji zallaha filardi wa lanujizahu haraba

¹³Wa anna lamma saminal huda amanna bih fama yumin birabihi fala yakafu baksaw wa la rahaqa

¹⁴Wa anna minal muslimuna wa minnal qasitun faman aslama fa ulaika taharau hataba

¹⁵Wa ammal qasituna fakanu lijahan nama hataba

¹⁶Wa allawistaqamu alat tariqatila asqainahum ma an gadaqa

¹⁷Linsftinahum fih wa ma yuridh an zikri rabbihi yasluk hu azaban shaada

¹⁸And the places of worship are for Allah: so invoke not anyone along with Allah;

¹⁹Yet when the devotee of Allah stands forth to invoke Him, they just make round him a dense crowd.”

²⁰Say: “I do no more than invoke my Lord and I join not with Him any false god.”

²¹Say: “It is not in my power to cause you harm or to bring you to right conduct.”

²²Say: “No one can deliver me from Allah nor should I find refuge except in Him.

²³Unless I proclaim what I receive from Allah and His messages: for any that disobey Allah and His apostle, for them is hell: they shall dwell therein forever.”

¹⁸Wa annal masajida lillahi fala tadu malahi ahada

¹⁹Wa annahu lamma qama abdul lahi yaduhu kadu yakununa alaihi libada

²⁰Qul innama adu rabbi wa la usyriku bihi ahada

²¹Qul inni la amliku lakum dhar ra wa la raswyada

²²Qul inni layujirani minal lahi aha duwa lan ajida min dunihi mul tahada

²³Illa balagham minal lahi wa risa latih, wa may yashil laha wa rasu lahu fa inna lahu nara jahan nama khalidina fiha adada

²⁴At length when they see what they are promised then will they know who it is that is weakest in his helper and least important in point of numbers.

²⁵Say: “I know not whether the punishment which you are promised is near or whether my Lord will appoint for it a distant term.

²⁶He knows the unseen, nor does He make any one acquainted with His mysteries.⁶

²⁷Except an apostle whom He has chosen: and then He makes a band of watchers march before him and behind him

²⁸That he may know that they have) brought and delivered the messages of their Lord: and He surrounds all the mysteries that are with them and takes account of every single thing.”

²⁴Hata iza ra au ma yu aduna fayalamuna man adhafu nashiraw wa aqallu adada

²⁵Qul in adri aqaribum ma tuaduna am yajalu lahu rabbi amada

²⁶Alimul ghaibi fala yuzhhiru ala ghaibihi ahada

²⁷Illa manirtadha mirasulin fa innahu yasluku minbaini yadaihi wa min khalfihi rashada

²⁸Liyalama an qad ablaqhu risalati rabbihim wa ahatha bima ladaihim wa ahshakulla syai inadada

6. The contents of the Qur’an has to be a mystery because Muhammad claims that he was unlettered (Qur’an 7:158) and could not have known these things otherwise, had Allah not revealed them him. So this statement is in contradiction of the claim for the Qur’an. In the Bible we read that hidden things belong to but He demystifies them in order to make them accessible to us. This way some, not all of his mystery is made available to us. This is the first time in which this is qualified in the next verse.
