The Beneficent (Ar-Rahmân)

In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.

¹Gracious!

²It is He who has taught the Qur’an.

³He has created man:

⁴He has taught him speech.

⁵The sun and the moon follow courses computed;

⁶And the herbs and the trees both bow in adoration.¹

⁷And the firmament has He raised high and He has set up the balance of justice.

⁸In order that you may not transgress due balance.

⁹So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.

¹⁰And it is He who has spread out the earth for His creatures:

¹¹Therein is fruit and date palms producing spathes:

¹²Also corn with its leaves and stalk for fodder and sweet smelling plants.

⁵Asamsu wal qamaru bihusban

⁶Wanajmu wa sajaru yasjudan

⁷Wasamaa rafaanha wa wadaal mizan

⁸Alla tatgau fil mizan

⁹Wa aqimul wazna bil qisti wa la tuksirul mizan

¹⁰Walarda wadaaha lil anam

¹¹Fiha fakihatu wan naklu satul akmam

¹²Wal habu zul asfi warraihan

1. All things indeed do praise God who is the Creator of all things.

¹³Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?²

¹⁴He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery.

¹⁵And He created jinns from fire free of smoke:

¹⁶Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

¹⁷Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests:³

¹⁸Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

¹⁹He has let free the two bodies of flowing water meeting together:⁴

²⁰Between them is a barrier which they do not transgress:

²¹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

²²Out of them come pearls and coral:

²³Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

¹³Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaz ziban

¹⁴Halaqal insana min salsalin kal fakar

¹⁵Wa halaqal jan na mim marijim minnar

¹⁶Fabi ayi ala rabbikuma tukaziban

¹⁷Rabbul masriqaini wa rabbul magribain

¹⁸Fabi ayi ala rabbikuma tukaziban

¹⁹Marajal bahraini yaltaqiyan

²⁰Bainahuma barzakulla yabgiyan

²¹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

²²Yakhruju minhumal lulu uwal marjan

²³Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

2. The goodness of the Lord, according to Paul in Romans 2:4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Therefore one may deny the favors of God before other human beings, he cannot so do in the presence of the Almighty.

3. The two Easts and two Wests, Yusuf Ali says “are the two extreme points where the sun rises during the year, and includes all the points between. Similarly the two Wests include the two extreme points of the sun’s setting and all the points between”. Muhammad Ali sees the two Easts and Wests as the position of the sun in the summer and winter. It is best in this context to say that He is God of all. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess.

4. The two bodies of water is the salt and fresh waters.

²⁴And His are the ships sailing smoothly through the seas lofty as mountains:⁵

²⁵Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

²⁶All that is on earth will perish;

²⁷But will abide the face of your Lord, full of majesty, bounty, and honor.

²⁸Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

²⁹Of Him seeks every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in splendor does He shine!

³⁰Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

³¹Soon shall We settle your affairs, O worlds!⁶

³²Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

²⁴Wa lahul jawaril munsa atu fil bahri kalalam

²⁵Fabi ayi alai rabikuma tukaziban

²⁶Kullu man alaiha fan

²⁷Wa yabqa wajhu rabbika zul jalali walikram

²⁸Fabi ayi alai rabikuma tukaziban

²⁹Yas aluhu man fi samawati walard kulla yaumin huwa fi san

³⁰Fabi ayi alai rabikuma tukaziban

³¹Sanafrugu lakum ayuhats saqalan

³²Fabi ayi alai rabbimuma tukaziban

5. The ships are not His, although He gave mankind the wisdom to build them, He oversees everything, those He Personally created and those created by mankind.

6. The two worlds are necessarily the worlds of the unbeliever and the believers. Better yet, the kingdom of God Almighty and the kingdom of Satan and his darkness.

³³O you assembly of jinns and men! if it be you can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass! not without authority shall you be able to pass!

³⁴Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

³⁵On you will be sent a flame of fire and a smoke: You will have no defense:

³⁶Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

³⁷When the sky is rent asunder and it becomes red like ointment:

³⁸Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

³⁹On that day no question will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin.

⁴⁰Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

³³Ya masaral jinni wal insi inis tatatum an tanfuzumin aqtaris samawati walardi fanfuzu la tanfuzuna illa bisultan

³⁴Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

³⁵Yursalu alaikuma suwazum minnari wa nuhasun fala tantasiran

³⁶Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

³⁷Fa izan saqatis samau fakanat wardatan kadihan

³⁸Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

³⁹Fayauma izilla yus alu an zambihi insu wa la jan

⁴⁰Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁴¹The sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

⁴²Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁴³This is the hell which the sinners deny.

⁴⁴In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!

⁴⁵Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁴⁶But for such as fear the time when they will stand before their Lord, there will be two gardens

⁴⁷Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁴⁸Containing all kinds of trees and delights.

⁴⁹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵⁰In them will be two springs flowing;

⁵¹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵²In them will be fruits of every kind two and two.

⁴¹Yuraful mujrimuna bisimahum fayukazu bin nawasi wal aqdam

⁴²Fabi ayyi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁴³Hazihi jahan namul lati yukazibu bihal mujrimun

⁴⁴Yatufuna bainaha wa baina hamimin an

⁴⁵Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁴⁶Wa liman kafa maqama rabbihi jannatan

⁴⁷Fabi ayyi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁴⁸Zawata afnan

⁴⁹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁵⁰Fihima ainani tajriyan

⁵¹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁵²Fihima min kulli fakihatin zaujan

⁵³Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵⁴They will recline on carpets whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the fruit of the gardens will be near.

⁵⁵Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵⁶In them will be chaste maidens restraining their glances whom no man or jinn before them has touched.⁷

⁵⁷Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵⁸Like unto rubies and coral.

⁵⁹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁶⁰Is there any reward for good other than good?

⁶¹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁶²And besides these two there are two other gardens

⁶³Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁵³Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁵⁴Mutakina ala furusin batainuha min istabraq wajanal jannataini dan

⁵⁵Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁵⁶Fihina qasiratu tarfi lam yatmitshuna insun qablahum wa la jan

⁵⁷Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁵⁸Ka annahun nal yaqutu wal marjan

⁵⁹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁶⁰Hal jazaul ihsani illal ihsan

⁶¹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁶²Wa min dunihima jannatan

⁶³Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

7. In the Islamic heaven, women will be there just to please the men sexually.

⁶⁴Dark green in color from plentiful watering.

⁶⁵Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁶⁶In them will be two springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance:

⁶⁷Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁶⁸In them will be fruits and dates and pomegranates:

⁶⁹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁷⁰In them will be fair companions good beautiful.

⁷¹Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁷²Companions restrained in pavilions.

⁷³Then which of the favor of your Lord will you deny?

⁷⁴Whom no man or jinn before them has touched.

⁷⁵Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁷⁶Reclining on green cushions and rich carpets of beauty.

⁶⁴Mud ham matan

⁶⁵Fabi ayi ala rabbikuma tukaziban

⁶⁶Fihima ainani nadahatan

⁶⁷Fabi ayi ala rabbikuma tukaziban

⁶⁸Fihima fakihatuw wa nakhlu waruman

⁶⁹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁷⁰Fihin na hairatun hisan

⁷¹Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁷²Hurum maqsuratun filkiyam

⁷³Fabi ayi ala rabbikuma tukaziban

⁷⁴Lam yatmis huna insun qablahum wa la jan

⁷⁵Fabi ayi alai rabbikuma tukaziban

⁷⁶Mutakina ala rafrafin kudri wa abqari yin hisan

⁷⁷Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?

⁷⁸Blessed be the name of your Lord, full of majesty, bounty, and honor.
