In the name of
Allah, Gracious, Merciful.
1H. M.
2The revelation of the book is from Allah, the exalted in power,
full of wisdom.
3Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for those who
believe.
4And in the creation of yourselves and the fact that animals are
scattered through the earth are signs for those of assured faith.
5And in the alternation of night and day, and the fact that Allah
sends down sustenance from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after
its death, and the change of the winds are signs for those that are wise.

6Such are the signs of Allah which We rehearse to you in truth:
then in what exposition will they believe after rejecting Allah and His
signs?1
7Woe to each sinful dealer in falsehoods:2
8He hears the signs of Allah rehearsed to him, yet is obstinate
and lofty as if he had not heard them: then announce to him a penalty
grievous!
9And when he learns something of Our signs he takes them in jest:
for such there will be a humiliating penalty.
10In front of them is hell: and of no profit to them is anything
they may have earned nor any protectors they may have taken to themselves
besides Allah: for them is a tremendous penalty.
11This is guidance: and for those who reject the signs of their
Lord is a grievous penalty of abomination.

1. The Qur’an was
revealed from a source other than Allah, and this verse makes it plain. The
“We” are those who rehearsed the Signs of Allah to Muhammad. Muslims claim
that the Qur’an came from Allah. This verse says otherwise.
2. Amen to that.
God Almighty will deal with imposters and false gods will be destroyed when
Christ returns for the Judgement Day. Sahih Al-Bukhar’si Hadith 4.657
narrated by Abu Huraira; Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hands my
soul is, surely (Jesus,) the son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and
will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler); he will break the Cross and
kill the pigs and there will be no Jizya (i.e. taxation taken from
non-Muslims).”

12It is Allah who has subjected the sea to you that ships may
sail through it by His command, that you may seek of His bounty, and that
you may be grateful.
13And He has subjected to you as from Him all that is in the
heavens and on earth: behold in that are signs indeed for those who reflect.
14Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not look forward
to the days of Allah: it is for Him to recompense each people according to
what they have earned.
15If anyone does a righteous deed it is to his own benefit; if he
does evil it works against him. In the end you will all be brought back to
your Lord.

16We did before grant to the Children of Israel the book, the
power of command, and prophethood; We gave them for sustenance things good
and pure; and We favored them above the nations.3
17And We granted them clear signs in affairs of religion: it was
only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms
through insolent envy among themselves. Verily, your Lord will judge between
them on the day of judgment as to those matters in which they set up
differences.
18Then We put you on the way of religion: so follow that way and
follow not the desires of those who know not.

3. Yusuf Ali, the
Apologist fills in the missing piece to make all this verse make sense,
religiously speaking. He comments thus: “Israel had the Revelation given
through Moses, the power of judgment and command through the Kingdom of
David and Solomon, and numerous prophetic warnings through such men as
Isaiah and Jeremiah.”
The Book is more than the Torah which is attributed to
Moses, at best it is referred as the “TANAKA” The Torah, Nabiyim (Prophets)
and Ketubiim (The Writings). As far as the power to Command as commented by
Yusuf Ali, it is pure wishful thinking in good faith, but he is sincerely
wrong.

19They will be of no use to you in the sight of Allah: it is only
wrongdoers that stand as protectors one to another: but Allah is the
protector of the righteous.
20These are clear evidences to men and a guidance and mercy to
those of assured faith.
21What! do those who seek after evil ways think that We shall
hold them equal with those who believe and do righteous deeds, that equal
will be their life and their death? Ill is the judgment that they make.
22Allah created the heavens and the earth for just ends and in
order that each soul may find the recompense of what it has earned and none
of them be wronged.4

4. This passage
suggests that the heavens and the earth were created after man had been
created for his benefit. On the contrary, the heavens and the earth were
created before man. In fact man was God Almighty’s last creation into a
perfect world until the serpent deceived the woman and brought chaos into
God’s perfect order. In the Bible and in Genesis, the fall of man is
recorded in chapter three and God Almighty drove them from the garden of
Eden.

23Do you then see such a one as takes as his god, his own vain
desire? Allah has knowing left him astray and sealed His hearing and his
heart and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah has
withdrawn guidance? Will you not then receive admonition?5
24And they say: “What is there but our life in this world? We
shall die and we live and nothing but time can destroy us.” But of that they
have no knowledge: they merely conjecture:
25And when Our clear signs are rehearsed to them, their argument
is nothing but this: they say “Bring our forefathers back if what you say is
true!”
26Say: “It is Allah who gives you life then gives you death; then
He will gather you together for the day of judgment about which there is no
doubt”: but most men do not understand.

5. If this is the
case, then no one would be saved, in the sense that, before anyone accepts
the teachings of faith, they would have been exposed to the things of this
world in order to fully understand their decision. Most every religion talks
about the age of accountability. Some say it is 12 years, others 16, and yet
others 18 or 20. Teenagers of all backgrounds experience a sort of rebellion
in finding their own identity. According to this passage, because they
choose to follow their own vain desires, they can not be reached by Allah and
no one else can guide them to salvation. How unfortunate that would be,
because no one was born believing in and submitting to God Almighty, it has
to be taught to them before faith can be effectual.

27To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and
the day that the hour of judgment is established, that day will the dealers
in falsehood perish!
28And you will see every sect bowing the knee: every sect will be
called to its record: “This day shall you be recompensed for all that you
did!
29“This Our record speaks about you with truth: for We were known
to put on record all that you did.”
30Then as to those who believed and did righteous deeds their
Lord will admit them to His mercy: that will be the achievement for all to
see.
31But as to those who reject Allah: “Were not Our signs rehearsed
to you? But you were arrogant and were a people given to sin!

32“And when it was said that the promise of Allah was true, and
that the hour there was no doubt about its coming, you used to say `We know
not what is the hour: we only think it is an idea and we have no firm
assurance.’"6
33Then will appear to them the evil (fruits) of what they did and
they will be completely encircled by that which they used to mock at!
34It will also be said: “This day We will forget you as you
forgot the meeting of this day of yours! And your abode is the fire and no
helpers have you!
35“This is because you used to take the signs of Allah in jest
and the life of the world deceived you.” From the day therefore they shall
not be taken out thence nor shall they be received into grace.

6. The Bible in 2
Peter 3:2-5 says that:
To recall the words spoken in the past by the holy
prophets and the commandment of our Lord and Savior spoken through your
apostles. First of all you must understand this: In the last days mockers
will come and, following their own desires, will ridicule us by saying,
"What happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died,
everything continues as it did from the beginning of creation." But they
deliberately ignore the fact that long ago the heavens existed and the earth
was formed by God's word out of water and with water...
The saying of the
scoffers is nothing new, but the Word of God Almighty, stands sure for this
reason anyone who calls on the name of the Lord must be exemplary in their
dealings giving glory to God Almighty in all they do.
