Smoke (Ad-Dukhân)

In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.

¹H. M.

²By the book that makes things clear.

³We sent it down during a blessed night: for We wish to warn against evil.

⁴In that night is made distinct every affair of wisdom

⁵By command from Our presence. For We ever send revelations.

⁶As a mercy from your Lord: for He hears and knows all things;

⁷The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if you have an assured faith.

⁸There is no god but He: it is He who gives life and gives death, the Lord to you and your earliest ancestors.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

¹Ha mim

²Wal kitabil mubin

³Inna anzalnahu fi lailatim muba rakatin inna kunna munzirin

⁴Fiha yufraqu kullu amrin hakim

⁵Amram min indina inna kunna mursilin

⁶Rahmatam mi rabbik innahu huwa samiul alim

⁷Rabbi samawati walardi wa ma bainahuma inkuntum muqinin

⁸La ilaha illa huwa yuhyil wa yumit rabbukum wa rabbu abai kumul awalin

⁹Yet they play about in doubt.

¹⁰Then watch for the day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke or mist plainly visible.

¹¹Enveloping the people: this will be a penalty grievous.

¹²“Our Lord! remove the penalty from us for We do really believe!”

¹³How shall the message be effectual for them seeing that an apostle explaining things clearly has come to them .

¹⁴Yet they turn away from him and say: “Tutored by others a man possessed!”

¹⁵We shall indeed remove the penalty for a while but truly you will revert to your ways.

¹⁶One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught, We will indeed exact retribution!

¹⁷We did before them try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them an apostle most honorable.

⁹Bal hum fi saki yalabun

¹⁰Fartaqib yauma tati samau bidu khanim mubin

¹¹Yagsan nas haza azabun alim

¹²Rabbanaksif annal azaba inna muminun

¹³Anna lahumu zakra wa qad ja ahum rasulum mubin

¹⁴Summa tawa lau anhuwa qalu mual lamum majnun

¹⁵Inna kasiful azabi qalilan innakum a idun

¹⁶Yauma nabtisul batsatal kubra inna muntaqimun

¹⁷Wa laqad fatan na qablahum qauma Firauna wa ja ahum rasulun karim

¹⁸Saying: “Restore to me the servants of Allah: I am to you an apostle worthy of all trust;

¹⁹“And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest.

²⁰“For me I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord against your injuring me.

²¹“And if you believe me not at least keep yourselves away from me.”

²²Then he cried to his Lord: “These are indeed a people given to sin.”

²³“March forth with My servants by night: for you are sure to be pursued.

²⁴“And leave the sea as a furrow. For they are a host destined to be drowned.”

²⁵How many were the gardens and springs they left behind.

²⁶And corn fields and noble buildings.

²⁷And wealth wherein they had taken such delight!

¹⁸An addu ila ya ibadal lah inni lakum rasulun amin

¹⁹Wa alla talu alallah inni atikum bisul tanim mubin

²⁰Wa inni uztu birabbi wa rabbikum an tarjumun

²¹Wa il lam tuminu lil fatazilun

²²Fadaa rabbahu anna haulaI qaumum mujrimun

²³Fa asri biibadil lailan innakum mutabaun

²⁴Watrukil bahra rahwa innahum jundum mugraqun

²⁵Kam taraku min jannati wa uyun

²⁶Wa zurui wa maqamin karim

²⁷Wa namatin kanu fiha fakihin

²⁸Thus was their end! And We made other people inherit those things!

²⁹And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite again.¹

³⁰We did deliver before the Children of Israel from humiliating punishment

³¹Inflicted by Pharaoh for he was arrogant even among inordinate transgressors.

³²And We chose them before above the nations knowingly.

³³And granted them signs in which there was a manifest trial.

³⁴As to these Quraish, they say forsooth:

³⁵“There is nothing beyond our first death and we shall not be raised again.

³⁶“Then bring our forefathers back if what you say is true!”

²⁸Kazalika wa auratsnaha qauman akharin

²⁹Fama bakat alaihimu samau walardu wa ma kanu munzarin

³⁰Wa laqad najjaina bani Isra il minal azabil muhin

³¹Min Firaun innahu kana aliyam minal musrifin

³²Wa laqadih tarnahum ala ilmin alal alamin

³³Wa atainahum minal ayati ma fihi bala um mubin

³⁴Inna haula I layaqulun

³⁵In hiya illa mautatunal ula wa ma nahnu bimunsarin

³⁶Fatu bi aba inna inkuntum sadiqin

1. Basically they were not missed by anyone.

³⁷What! are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin.

³⁸And We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them merely in sport:

³⁹We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand.

⁴⁰Verily, the day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them

⁴¹The day when no protector can avail his client in anything and no help can they receive.

⁴²Except such as receive Allah’s mercy: for He is exalted in might, most merciful.

⁴³Verily, the tree of Zaqqum

⁴⁴Will be the food of the sinful.

⁴⁵Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides.

³⁷Ahum khairun am qaumu tub baiw wal lazina min qablihim ahlaknahum in nahum kanu mujrimin

³⁸Wa ma khalaqna samawati wal arda wa ma bainahuma laibin

³⁹Ma khalaqnahuma illa bilhaqqi wa lakin na aksarahum la yalamun

⁴⁰Inna yaumal fasli miqatuhum ajmain

⁴¹Yauma la yugni maulan am maulan sai awa la hum yunsarun

⁴²Illa ma rahimal lah innahu huwal azizu rahim

⁴³Inna syajarata zaqqum

⁴⁴Taamul asim

⁴⁵Kal muhli yagi fi butun

⁴⁶Like the boiling of scalding water.

⁴⁷“Seize him and drag him into the midst of the blazing fire!

⁴⁸“Then pour over his head the penalty of boiling water;

⁴⁹“Taste this! Truly were you mighty full of honor!

⁵⁰“Truly this is what you used to doubt!”

⁵¹As to the righteous they will be in a position of security

⁵²Among gardens and springs;

⁵³Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade they will face each other;

⁵⁴So; and We shall join them to companions with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.

⁵⁵There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security;

⁴⁶Kaghalyil hamim

⁴⁷Khuzuhu fatiluhu ila sawa il jahim

⁴⁸Summa subu fauqa rasihi min azabil hamim

⁴⁹Zuq innaka antal azizul karim

⁵⁰Innahaza ma kuntum bihi tamtarun

⁵¹Innal muttaqina fi maqamin amin

⁵²Fi jannati wa uyun

⁵³Yalbasuna min sundusi wa istabraqi mutaqabilin

⁵⁴Kazalika wa zawajnahum bihurin in

⁵⁵Yaduna fiha bikul li fakihatin aminin

⁵⁶Nor will they there taste death except the first death; and He will preserve them from the penalty of the blazing fire

⁵⁷As a bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme achievement!

⁵⁸Verily, We have made this easy in your tongue in order that they may give heed.

⁵⁹So wait and watch; for they too are waiting.

⁵⁶La yazuquna fihal mauta illal mautatal ula wa waqahum azabal jahim

⁵⁷Fadlam mi rabbik zalika huwal fauzul azim

⁵⁸Fa innama ya sarnahu bilisanika laal lahum yataza karun

⁵⁹Fai taqib innahum murtaqibun
