In the name of
Allah, Gracious, Merciful.
1The revelation of this book is from Allah, the exalted in power, full of
wisdom.
2Verily, it is We who have revealed the book to you in truth: so serve
Allah, offering Him sincere devotion.
3Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is due? But those who take for
protectors other than Allah say: “We only serve them in order that they may
bring us nearer to Allah.” Truly, Allah will judge between them in that
wherein they differ. But Allah guides not such as are false and ungrateful.1

1. Idolatry is not only the worship of other
gods, but also associating partners with God Almighty is equally idolatry.
There are those who take the saying ‘heavens help those who help themselves’
to a new level by claiming that heavenly and the ghosts of departed saints
can help bring us near to God Almighty.
Well, there is no
Biblical proof of this, rather in the Bible we read that to be nearer to God
one must first consecrate oneself (2 Chronicles 29:31). It does not mention
going to God Almighty through an intermediary. In the New testament, we are
told to come to God Almighty through Jesus Christ who is the Word of God
Almighty John 15:1-27, John 1:1-3). This is also on account of what Christ
has done for all of us, He died for our sins so that we would receive
eternal life through faith in Him.

4Had Allah wished to take to Himself a son He could have chosen whom He
pleased out of those whom He does create: but Glory be to Him! He is above
such things. He is Allah the one the irresistible.2
5He created the heavens and the earth in true proportions: He makes the
night overlap the day and the day overlap the night: He has subjected the
sun and the moon, each one follows a course for a time appointed. Is not He
the exalted in power, He who forgives again and again?
6He created you from a single person: then created of like nature his
mate; and He sent down for you eight head of cattle in pairs: He makes you
in the wombs of your mothers in stages one after another in three veils of
darkness. Such is Allah your Lord: to Him belongs dominion. There is no god
but He: then how are you turned away?3

Qur’an 112.
3. Man was created male and female and I am
sure that the animals and other creations who need to cohabit with an
opposite sex in order to procreate were also created male and female. To say
that God Almighty created eight heads of cattle is to be presumptuous about
God’s master plan for all His creation. Genesis 1:20-31 shares no such
thought.

7It you reject Allah truly, Allah has no need of you; but He likes not
ingratitude from His servants: if you are grateful He is pleased with you.
No bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another. In the end to your Lord
is your return, when He will tell you the truth of all that you did in this
life. For He knows well all that is in men’s hearts.
8When some trouble touches man, he cries unto his Lord, turning to Him in
repentance: but when He bestows a favor upon him as from Himself, man does
forget what he cried and prayed for before, and he does set up rivals unto
Allah, thus misleading others from Allah’s path. Say “Enjoy your blasphemy
for a little while: verily, you are one of the companions of the fire!”

9Is one who worships devoutly during the hours of the night prostrating
himself or standing, who takes heed of the hereafter and who places his hope
in the mercy of his Lord? Say: “Are those equal, those who know and those
who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive
admonition.”
10Say: “O my servants who believe! Fear your Lord: good is for those who
do good in this world. Spacious is Allah’s earth! Those who patiently
persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!”
11Say: “Verily, I am commanded to serve Allah with sincere devotion;
12“And I am commanded to be the first of those who bow to Allah in Islam.”4
13Say: “I would if I disobeyed my Lord indeed, have fear of the penalty of
a mighty day.”

4. It is very difficult to argue with facts,
unless one has evidence to counter the facts. That is what seems to be going
on here. Muhammad is told to say that he is the first, not the second or one
of those, but the first to bow to Allah in Islam. This being the case how
does he explain the claim that the prophets of old were all Muslims? If
Muhammad was the first of the Muslims that means before him there are or
were no Muslims. See Qur’an 3:67.

15“Serve what you will besides Him.” Say: “Truly those in loss are those
who lose their own souls and their people on the day of judgment: Ah! that
is indeed the evident loss!”
16They shall have layers of fire above them and layers below them: with
this does Allah warn off His servants: “O my servants! Then fear Me!”
17Those who eschew evil and fall not into its worship and turn to Allah,
for them is good news: so announce the good news to My servants.

are the ones whom Allah has guided and those are the ones endued with
understanding.
19Is then one against whom the decree of punishment is justly due equal to
one who eschews evil? Would you then deliver one who is in the fire?5
20But it is for those who fear their Lord that lofty mansions, one above
another have been built: beneath them flow rivers: such is the promise of
Allah: never does Allah fail in promise.6

5. If there is no
mercy for those in the fire, why does the Qur’an in
19:69-72 say that God
will deliver some from the hell fire after they enter therein. The fact is
that one is awarded only that which they have earned. There is no exit for
those who go to hell.
6. Such is what Jesus has promised His
followers (John 14:6) Muhammad’s promise please refer to
Qur’an 19:69-72.

21Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and leads it
through springs in the earth? Then He causes to grow therewith produce of
various colors: then it withers; you will see it grow yellow; then He makes
it dry up and crumble away. Truly in this is a message of remembrance to men
of understanding.
22Is one whose heart Allah has opened to Islam so that he has received
enlightenment from Allah no better than one hard hearted? Woe to those whose
hearts are hardened against celebrating the praises of Allah! They are
manifestly wandering in error!

23Allah has revealed the most beautiful message in the form of a book,
consistent with itself, repeating its teaching in various aspects: the skins
of those who fear their Lord tremble thereat; then their skins and their
hearts do soften to the celebration of Allah’s praises. Such is the guidance
of Allah: He guides therewith whom He pleases but such as Allah leaves to
stray can have none to
guide.7
24Is then one who has to fear the brunt of the penalty on the day of judgment on his face like one guarded therefrom? It will be said to the
wrongdoers: “Taste the fruits of what you earned!”
25Those before them rejected revelation and so the punishment came to them
from directions they did not perceive.
26So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life but
greater is the punishment of the hereafter, if they only knew!
27We have put forth for men in this Qur’an every kind of parable in order
that they may receive admonition.
28It is a Qur’an in Arabic without any crookedness therein: in order that
they may guard against evil.

7. The Qur’an was not revealed as a Book,
Rather, it was revealed in bits and pieces and later on put together as a
Book after the death of Muhammad. In Sahih Al-Bukhari’s Hadith 4.62 narrated
by Kharija bin Zaid; we read,
Zaid bin Thabit said, “When the Quran was
compiled from various written manuscripts, one of the verses of Surat Al-Ahzab
was missing which I used to hear Allah’s Apostle reciting. I could not find
it except with Khuzaima bin Thabjt Al-Ansari, whose witness Allah’s Apostle
regarded as equal to the witness of two men. And the verse was: “Among the
believers are men who have been true to what they covenanted with Allah.
In
Biographies of Companions and under the subject Zayd ibn Thabit, we read,
After the death of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the
task fell on this fortunate young man who specialized in the Qur’an to
authenticate the first and most important reference for the ummah of
Muhammad. This became an urgent task after the wars of apostasy and the
Battle of Yamamah in particular in which a large number of those who had
committed the Quran to memory perished. Umar convinced the Khalifah Abu Bakr
that unless the Quran was collected in one manuscript, a large part of it
was in danger of being lost.
|
|
 |
|
Abu Bakr summoned Zayd ibn Thabit and said to
him: “You are an intelligent young man and we do not suspect you (of telling
lies or of forgetfulness) and you used to write the Divine revelation for
Allah’s Messenger. Therefore look for (all parts of) the Quran and collect
it in one manuscript.”
Zayd was immediately aware of the weighty
responsibility. He later said: “By Allah, if he (Abu Bakr) had ordered me to
shift one of the mountains from its place, it would not have been harder for
me than what he had ordered me concerning the collection of the Quran.” Zayd
finally accepted the task and, according to him, “started locating the
Quranic material and collecting it from parchments, scapula, leafstalks of
date palms and from the memories of men (who knew it by heart)”. It was a
painstaking task and Zayd was careful that not a single error, however
slight or unintentional, should creep into the work. When Zayd had completed
his task, he left the prepared suhuf or sheets with Abu Bakr.
Before he
died, Abu Bakr left the suhuf with Umar who in turn left it with his
daughter Hafsah. Hafsah, Umm Salamah and Aishah were wives of the Prophet,
may Allah be pleased with them, who memorized the Quran. During the time of
Uthman, by which time Islam had spread far and wide, differences in reading
the Quran became obvious. A group of companions of the Prophet, headed by
Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, who was then stationed in Iraq, came to Uthman and
urged him to “save the Muslim ummah before they differ about the Quran”.
Uthman obtained the manuscript of the Quran from Hafsah and again summoned
the leading authority, Zayd ibn Thabit, and some other competent companions
to make accurate copies of it. Zayd was put in charge of the operation. He
completed the task with the same meticulousness with which he compiled the
original suhuf during the time of Abu Bakr. Zayd and his assistants wrote
many copies. One of these Uthman sent to every Muslim province with the
order that all other Quranic materials whether written in fragmentary
manuscripts or whole copies be burnt. This was important in order to
eliminate any variations or differences from the standard text of the Quran.
Uthman kept a copy for himself and returned the original manuscript to
Hafsah. |

29Allah puts forth a parable, a man belonging to many partners at variance
with each other and a man belonging entirely to one master: are those two
equal in comparison? Praise be to Allah! But most of them have no knowledge.8
30Truly you will die and truly, they too will die one day.
31In the end will you on the day of judgment settle your disputes in the
presence of your Lord.
32Who then does more wrong than one who utters a lie concerning Allah and
rejects the truth when it comes to him? Is there not in hell an abode for
blasphemers?
33And he who brings the truth and he who confirms and supports it, such
are the men who do right.
34They shall have all that they wish for in the presence of their Lord:
such is the reward of those who do good:

He takes during their sleep, those on whom He has passed the decree of
death, He keeps back from returning to life, but the rest He sends for a

Guide us to the straight path. Is this Allah asking for direction or you

question. For sure we know that God responds to those who call on Him for
salvation.

67No just estimate have they made of Allah such as is due to Him:
on the day of judgment the whole of the earth will be but His handful, and
the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand: Glory to Him! high is He

68The trumpet will be sounded when all that are in the heavens and on
earth will swoon, except such as it will please Allah. Then will a second
one be sounded when behold, they will be standing and looking on!
69And the earth will shine with the glory of its Lord: the record will be

12. The Qur’an makes the assumption that no
prophet will go to hell, it does not make a distinction between the true and
false prophets. The Bible is full of warning against false prophets and
their end. The Qur’an overlooks this fact and blanketly states that no
prophet would be harmed in any way. This is partly because the Qur’an
teaches that prophets are sinless (21:27,
76-93).

71The unbelievers will be led to hell in crowds; until when they arrive
there its gates will be opened and its Keepers will say “Did not apostles
come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing to you the signs of your Lord
and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours?” The answer will be:
“True: but the decree of punishment has been proved true against the
unbelievers!”
72To them will be said: “Enter the gates of hell to dwell therein: and
evil is the abode of the arrogant!”
73And those who feared their Lord will be led to the garden in crowds:
until behold they arrive there; its gates will be opened: and its keepers
will say: “Peace be upon you! You have done well! Enter here to dwell
therein.”

74And they will say: “Praise be to Allah who has truly fulfilled His
promise to us and has given us land in heritage: we can dwell in the garden
as we will: how excellent a reward for those who work righteousness!”13
75And you will see the angels surrounding the throne on all sides singing
glory and praise to their Lord. The decision between them at judgment will
be in perfect justice. And the cry on all sides will be “Praise be to Allah,
the Lord of the worlds!” |

13. The Bible talks about the righteous
entering into heaven and living in mansions prepared for them by Christ.
John 14:1-3 reads:
“Do not let your
hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. There are many rooms
in my Father's house. If there were not, would I have told you that I am
going away to prepare a place for you? And if I am going away to prepare a
place for you, I will come again and will welcome you into my presence, so
that you may be where I am.”
The Qur’an offers
its followers gardens as an excellent reward. It is verses like this one
which probably made Karl Marx say that religion is the opium of the people.

And quite recently, a US Governor of the State of Minneapolis, Jesse
Ventura (whose wife is a member of the Lutheran Church), said in a Playboy
magazine interview that “organized religion is a sham”. This soothes
the ignorance of the people who are not given any chance to challenge any
revelation Allah gives to Muhammad. |
