In the name of
Allah, Gracious, Merciful.
1T. S. M.
2These are verses of the book that makes clear.1
3It may be you frets your soul with grief that they do not become
believers.
4If such were Our will We could send down to them from the sky a sign to
which they would bend their necks in humility.
5And there comes not to them a newly revealed message from the most
gracious but they turn away therefrom.
6They have indeed rejected the Message: so they will know soon the truth
of what they mocked at!

7Do they not look at the earth how many noble things of all kinds we have
produced therein?2
8Verily, in this is a sign: but most of them do not believe.
9And verily, your Lord is He the exalted in might, most merciful.
10And behold your Lord called Moses: “Go to the people of iniquity
11“The people of Pharaoh: will they not fear Allah?”
12He said: “O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood:
13“My breast will be straitened and my speech may not go smoothly: so send
unto Aaron.3
14“And they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay
me.”
15Allah said: “By no means! proceed then both of you with Our signs; We
are with you and will listen.

16“So go forth both of you to Pharaoh and say: `We have been sent by the
Lord of the Worlds;
17“`Send with us the Children of Israel.’”
18He said: “Did we not cherish you as a child among us and did you not
stay in our midst many years of your life?
19“And you did a deed of which you know you did and you are an ungrateful
wretch!”
20He said: “I did it then when I was in error.
21“So I fled from you when I feared you; but my Lord has invested me with
judgment and appointed me as one of the apostles.
22“And this is the favor with which you reproach me that you have enslaved
the Children of Israel”
23Pharaoh said: “And what is the `Lord of the worlds?’”

24He said: “The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between if you
want to be quite sure.”
25He said to those around: “Do you not listen to what he says?”
26He said: “Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!”
27He said: “Truly, your apostle who has been sent to you is a veritable
madman!”
28(Moses) said: “Lord of the East and the West and all between! If you
only had sense!”
29He said: “If you put forward any god other than me I will certainly put
you in prison!”
30He said: “Even if I showed you something clear and convincing?”
31He said: “Show it then if you tell the truth!”
32So he threw his rod and behold it was a serpent plain for all to see!

33And he drew out his hand and behold it was white to all beholders!
34He said to the chiefs around him: “This is indeed a sorcerer well
versed:
35“His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it
you counsel?”
36They said: “Keep him and his brother in suspense and dispatch to the
cities heralds to collect.
37“And bring up to you all our sorcerers well versed.”
38So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well
known
39And the people were told: “Are you assembled?

41So when the sorcerers arrived they said to Pharaoh: “Of course shall we
have a reward if we win?”
42He said: “Yea, and more for you shall in that case be raised to posts
nearest.”
43Moses said to them: “Throw you that which you are about to throw!”
44So they threw their ropes and their rods and said: “By the might of
Pharaoh it is we who will certainly win!”
45Then Moses threw his rod when behold, it straightway swallows up all the
falsehoods which they fake!
46Then did the sorcerers fall down prostrate in adoration.
47Saying: “We believe in the Lord of the worlds.
48“The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”

49Said Pharaoh: “believe in him before I give you permission? Surely he is
your leader who has taught you sorcery! But soon shall you know! “But sure I
will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides and I will cause you
all to die on the cross!”
50They said: “No matter! for us we shall but return to our Lord!
51“Only our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults that we may
become foremost among the believers!”4
52And by inspiration We told Moses: “Travel by night with My servants; for
surely you shall be pursued.”
53Then Pharaoh sent heralds to all the cities.
54Saying: “These are but a small band.
55“And they are raging furiously against us;

4. The sorcerers of
Pharaoh continued to challenge God up to when all the first born males in
Egypt died. After this they had a temporal change of heart, out of
frustration, to let the Israelites go. As soon as they were gone, Pharaoh
and his men decided against their departure and took to pursuing the Jews
when they were drowned in the Red Sea (Exodus 13:15‑17, 14:9‑30). The
sorcerers rejected and their counsel led to the destruction of the
Egyptians.

57So We expelled them from gardens springs
58And treasures and every kind of honorable position;
59Thus it was but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such
things.
60So they pursued them at sunrise.
61And when the two bodies saw each other the people of Moses said: “We are
sure to be overtaken.”
62He said: “By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!
63Then We told Moses by inspiration: “Strike the sea with your rod.” So it
divided and each separate part become like the huge firm mass of a mountain.
64And We made the other party approach thither.
65And We delivered Moses and all who were with him;
66But We drowned the others.

5. The difference
in the Qur’anic references to stories is that it adds to it as it goes,
therefore, each time a story is told, something completely different is
seen. Whereas aside of the Synoptic Gospels which gives different sides to
the story of the life and ministry of Jesus, all others are systematic. If
any mention is made of a Patriarch or other personalities of the Bible most
often they are quotation from their stories and not an entirely new story as
we read in the Qur’an.106 Behold their brother Noah said to them: “Will ye
not fear Allah?

generations;

182“And weigh with scales true and upright.
183“And withhold not things justly due to men nor do evil in the land
working mischief.
184“And fear Him who created you and the generations before.
185They said: “You are only one of those bewitched!
186“You are no more than a mortal like us and indeed we think you are a
liar!
187“Now cause a piece of the sky to fall on us if you are truthful!”
188He said: “My Lord knows best what you do.”
189But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing
gloom seized them and that was the penalty of a great day.

190Verily, in that is a sign: but most of them do not believe.
191And verily, your Lord is He, the exalted in might, most merciful.
192Verily, this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds:
193With it came down the Spirit of faith and truth.
194To your heart and mind that you may admonish.
195In the perspicuous Arabic tongue.
196And without doubt it is in the mystic books of former peoples.
197Is it not a sign to them that the learned of the Children of Israel
knew it?
198And had We revealed it to any of the non Arabs.
199And had he recited it to them they would not have believed in it.
200Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners.

201They will not believe in it until they see the grievous penalty;
202But the penalty will come to them of a sudden while they perceive it
not;
203Then they will say: “Shall we be respited?”
204Do they then ask for Our penalty to be hastened on?
205Do you see? If We do let them enjoy this life for a few years
206Yet there comes to them at length the punishment which they were
promised!
207It will profit them not that they enjoyed this life!
208Never did We destroy a population but had its warners
209By way of reminder; and We never are unjust.
210No evil ones have brought down this:
211And it would neither suit them nor would they be able.

212Indeed they have been removed far from even a chance of hearing it.
213So call not on any other god with Allah or you will be among those
under the penalty.
214And admonish your nearest kinsmen.7
215And lower your wing to the believers who follow you.8
216Then if they disobey you say: “I am free of what you do!”9
217And put your trust on the exalted in might, the merciful
218Who sees you standing forth.

7. When Muhammad
received this verse, he had no assurance for any of his family members
regarding their salvation. Not even a verse that may be helpful towards
their salvation. All he could offer them was of his worldly belongings.
According to Sahih Muslim Hadith’s 401 narrated by Aisha;
When this verse
was revealed: “And warn thy nearest kindred,” the Messenger of Allah (peace
be upon him) stood up on Safa’ and said: O Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad, O
Safiyyah, daughter of Abdul Muttalib, O son of Abdul Muttalib, I have
nothing which can avail you against Allah; you may ask me what you want of
my worldly belongings.
8. Furthermore
Allah told him to be gentle and tenderhearted towards the believers. When
Jesus knew His time was near He told His disciples:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God,
believe also in me. There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there were
not, would I have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you?
And if I am going away to
|
|
 |
|
prepare a place for you, I will come again and will
welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am. You know where
I am going, and you know the way."
Later after the Apostle Paul had
labored and near the end of his time, he could say with certainty in 2
Timothy 4:6‑8;
For I am already being poured out as an offering, and
the time for my departure has come. I have fought the good fight. I have
completed the race. I have kept the faith. The victor's crown of
righteousness is now waiting for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will give to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who eagerly
wait for his appearing.
Muhammad, on the
other hand, was told to say that he does not know what will be done with him
in the hereafter (Qur’an 46:9).
9. A True Prophet is one who is willing to die
for his flock. He assumes responsibility for the actions of his followers
and makes the appropriate intercession for them. Moses could argue with God
on behalf of the obstinate and rebellious Jews that God should forgive them
their sins or erase his name from the Book of life. Exodus 32:32:
“But now, if you will
forgive their sin--but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have
written.” Ultimately, every soul
bears his or her own responsibility. But it is always good to know that your
leader is willing to die for you. Jesus laid down His life for us.

223They pour hearsay, vanities, and most of them are liars.
224And the poets, it is those straying in evil who follow them:
225Do you not see that they wander distracted in every valley?
226And that they say what they practice not?
227Except those who believe work righteousness engage much in the
remembrance of Allah and defend themselves only after they are unjustly
attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their
affairs will take! |
